About BASAS
The Boston Association of School Administrators and Supervisors (BASAS) serves as the official labor union and professional body representing administrative (instructional and operational) leadership across Boston Public Schools (BPS). Formed following the passage of Massachusetts' public employee collective bargaining law, BASAS operates as AFSA Local 6 under the American Federation of School Administrators (AFL-CIO).
BASAS represents key instructional and operational leaders across Boston Public Schools (BPS), including Assistant Principals, Assistant Heads of School, Directors of Instruction, Assistant Directors, Operational Leaders, Program Directors, Food Service Coordinators, Culture & Climate Managers, and more. Selected for their proven leadership experience, ability to develop curriculum, and expertise in staff evaluation, these administrators serve as central drivers of continuous improvement throughout BPS.
Together, we work to protect member rights, advocate for fair working conditions, and advance educational excellence for all students in Boston Public Schools.
About AFSA
Our union is an affiliate of the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA), the exclusive national labor union for school administrators, professionals, and supervisors speaking out for excellence and equity in all of our schools, workplaces and communities.
AFSA members are leaders in their schools and communities and are charged with the privilege and responsibility of helping to mold our nation’s students into successful, mindful individuals.
As school leaders, AFSA members are constantly advocating for better public schools and systems of education. In regards to education reform, AFSA members support reforms that put students first and include school administrators in the discussion and implementation.
As a union affiliated with the AFL-CIO, AFSA members recognize the importance of collective bargaining rights and their right to organize. AFSA members are active in the labor movement and proudly stand in solidarity with all trade unionists and school administrators.
