New Executive Order: A Blatant Attack on Workers’ Rights and a Clear Example of Union-Busting

The American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) is deeply concerned about the executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which undermines workers' rights throughout the federal government. This action is a blatant example of union-busting, stripping federal employees of their fundamental right to unionize and engage in collective bargaining. Impacting over 30 government agencies, this order erodes the protections that ensure workers' voices are heard and represented in the workplace.

Although Trump claimed he was unaware of Project 2025 during the campaign, his actions against federal workers today clearly follow the blueprint outlined in that plan.

Federal workers who support our education system, protect our airspace, ensure the safety of our banking system, and guarantee that veterans, Social Security, and Medicare benefits reach those who earned them—along with countless others providing critical services—are now deprived of their ability to organize for better working conditions, fair pay, and job security. This executive order silences their voices in the workplace and prevents them from collaborating to improve their ability to serve the public effectively.

The fight for collective bargaining is a fight for all unions. When one union is attacked, every union is under threat. This is not just an assault on federal workers—it is a direct challenge to the rights of workers nationwide. This is about defending the collective strength of the labor movement, safeguarding the basic right to organize, and protecting the working conditions that unions have fought for over generations.

We will not allow Trump and his wealthy allies to undo the progress that workers have fought tirelessly to achieve. The labor movement will not be silenced, and we will not stand idly by as our members lose their fundamental rights.

Now is the time for every American who believes in workers' rights to raise their voice louder than ever. Contact your congressional representatives and demand their support for unions. We will not let this government dismantle the rights and protections that unions have fought for over decades. This fight is only just beginning.
